Loving Muslims
We want to share the love of God with the Muslims in Europe and help the European churches to do the same
Description
Our desire that each of around 50 million Muslims in Europe will have at least one Christian friend. We want to show friendship by being committed to them, spending time with them in order to build solid relationships. We want to be interested in them, seek to understand and respect them. We want to treat them as people and not as potential terrorists.
Through our friendships we want to show them what Christ is able to do in lives that are submitted to Him. We want to enable the church to demonstrate through words and actions that Muslims are precious in God’s eyes and worthy of salvation.
History
Islam is not a newcomer to Europe. Europe and Islam have had close relations for centuries: first, the state of Andalusia (756-1492) on the Iberian Peninsula, and later the Crusades (1095-1291). The Ottoman capture of the Balkans (1389) put Islam on the map in that part of Europe until the present day.
But it is particularly since the 1960s, when guest workers from North Africa and Turkey were invited to come, that the number of Muslims in Europe has increased rapidly, making Islam the second-largest religion in 16 European countries. Some estimate that, compared to today’s 6 percent, Muslims will comprise about 20 percent of Europe’s population by 2050.
Ministry
We are committed to recruit, train and place workers in teams throughout Europe that will work in close collaboration with local churches in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the Muslims in Europe.
